Queen of the Mountains, a new women’s cycling performance brand, has just launched via Kickstarter. Not only have they launched, but they’ve sailed through their Kickstarter target with 17 days still left, raising over £11,000 to fund their first product run.
Designed by women for women, the kit delivers a female perspective on cycling.
It’s not just small, pink, jerseys etc, I’m personally rather impressed with the look of some of the items, bold colourful pieces of kit which will fill the roads with colour.
Alicia Bamford, founder Queen of the Mountains, said:
“One of our primary aims was to create cycling clothing for women that performs superbly on the bike and that looks amazing off the bike too. Essentially we set out to address the lack of attractive performance clothing which is a real barrier to some women cycling. We design garments from scratch with the female form and needs at the forefront.
“We want to inspire women to ride and to climb their own mountain, to set their own challenge and feel that sense of achievement on the way up, as well as at the summit. We’re introducing more women to the beauty, freedom and sense of achievement that comes with cycling.”
The new brand of performance cycling apparel is inspired by classic mountain climbs popular with ascent-seeking cyclists. The colour schemes and design details are influenced by the flora, fauna and epic views from famous summits.
Alice Monger-Godfrey, former GB Professional cyclist said “I love the colours and fit of the Classic jersey – it’s so nice to see something a bit different on the market for women. It is slightly longer which is great for my weekend rides. The Race jersey is incredibly comfortable and I wear this on harder rides, as it’s aerodynamic and works well when I’m sweating.”
Queen of the Mountains is building a strong community of female cyclists, with weekly group training rides and other money-can’t-buy cycling events which encourage more women to get out on their bikes and challenge themselves.
The Spring/Summer collection, inspired by Mont Ventoux, will be available for pre-order on 27th of January via The Queen of the Mountains Kickstarter page. The first range includes beautiful, technical jerseys, shorts, gilets, socks and more all designed for women.
