Don’t try this at home kids! Disc brakes absolutely provide better stopping power, but do they also increase willingness to take risks and push the borders that little bit further?
55kph about 3 metres behind a tractor – as dangerous as it is fun…..
How does that relate to a professional peloton?
The riders are already seeking out every performance gain that they can, and if discs can help them brake a second later then they certainly will.
If everyone is able to do that, then the risk is lessoned – however if some are on rim brakes, or if it’s wet, then there could be additional risks being taken to compensate.
It will be interesting to see where the UCI take this.
